Further Support for Transport Industry to Keep WA Moving

After extensive industry consultation, the State Government is committing up to $6.1 million to train more Western Australians in heavy vehicle driving.

The job-ready Heavy Vehicle Driving Operations Skill Set and driver training will train an estimated 1,000 skilled workers needed by the transport industry to avoid skill shortages.

State Training Plan 2021-2022

The State Training Plan 2021-2022 identifies eight strategic priorities for Western Australia, to guide the State Government’s investment in the vocational education and training sector over the next two years. It focuses on the wide-reaching impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and identifies strategies to support the State’s recovery response, including the WA Recovery Plan and the Review of Skills, Training and Workforce Development.

A new campaign will inspire women, veterans, young people, jobseekers and career changers to take advantage of the job opportunities created by the State Government's $18.34 million maritime defence industry workforce package.
'The Other Force' campaign will raise awareness of the job opportunities and career pathways available in Western Australia's defence industry.

Payroll tax exemption for Boosting Apprenticeships Commencements scheme

The State Government has exempted Western Australian businesses from paying payroll tax on wage subsidies announced in the 2020-21 Commonwealth Government Budget.

The Boosting Apprenticeships Commencements wage subsidy is for apprentices or trainees of eligible businesses who commence and undertake training between October 5, 2020 and September 30, 2021.

New Funding to Expand Goldfields Migrant Employment Program

27/11/2020

The State Government will invest an additional $300,000 over two years into the Goldfields Migrant Employment project to continue to bring new workers to the Goldfields. The investment will assist in finding a unique solution to the regions labour shortage. The pilot program has already successfully relocated 50 Perth-based migrants into work in the Goldfields, including delivery and truck drivers.
