Feedback Sought: Mandatory Workplace Requirements in VET

Learners undertaking Vocational Education and Training (VET) must complete placement in a workplace for some courses. There is currently a lack of consistency in how these Mandatory Workplace Requirements (MWRs) are expressed in training products and there is variation in how they are interpreted and implemented by Training Providers. The Federal Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE) are inviting stakeholders to provide their feedback on how MWRs are currently undertaken and how they might be improved.

Feedback Sought: Proposed EVAC ICT Information Communications Technology

FutureNow, the Creative and Leisure Industries Training Council, is undertaking a series of Establishment and Variation of Apprenticeships Process/es (EVAC) relating to the ICT Information Communications Technology training package, as below: ​
  • Proposal 1: to amend the Traineeship in Information Technology (Level 3) to make it available to secondary students 
  • Proposal 2: to amend the range of information technology traineeships at Level 4 so that all specialisations may be completed as a traineeship 
  • Proposal 3: to establish a Traineeship in Cyber Security (Level 4) relating to the accredited course Certificate IV in Cyber Security 
  • Proposal 4: to establish a Traineeship in Information Technology (Level 5) 
  • Proposal 5: to establish a Traineeship in Information Technology (Level 6)

    Save the Date – LDSC RTO Forum Friday 3 December 2021

    The annual LDSC RTO Forum is back for 2021 at Floreat Forum on Friday 3 December 2021 for a half day. LDSCs new CEO, Michael Taremba will provide an opening address regarding LDSCs future directions. Guest speakers will include presenters from the Training Accreditation Council (TAC), Australian Industry Standards (AIS) and the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) who will provide updates and guidance on their various areas.  
     
    We look forward to welcoming you all to this year’s event. Registrations are open and will close Friday 12 November 2021.  ​

    Attracting Industry Experts to Become VET Practitioners

    The National Centre for Vocational Education and Research (NCVER) are hosting a webinar Attracting Industry Experts to Become VET Practitioners: A Journey, not a Destination on the 8 December 2021 at 11:30am AWST. The webinar will discuss findings of their upcoming report which involves the transition from industry to VET and the updating of skills to maintain the dual professionalism and flexibility required to train, assesses and respond to industry’s needs.

    In related news, NCVER have also released the VET for Secondary School Students: Insights and Outcomes Report.  This report investigates the models used to deliver VET to secondary students, and reports on findings from surveys of students and parents about their motivations and aspirations. ​

    Injury Matters Podcast on Mental Health for Truckies

    Mental Health is an area consistently raised in industry consultations with the LDSC as a critical aspect to supporting those in Truck Driver roles. Injury Matters has released their first podcast through their “Mental and Physical Safety (MaPS) on our Roads” program, which is dedicated to supporting the mental health needs of the heavy vehicle industry. Injury Matter's current campaign, Service Your Mind encourages heavy vehicle operators to learn what good mental health looks like for them, to take time to adjust after a long day and how/where to reach out for support.

    Transport and Logistics IRC Recommend Heavy Vehicle Driver Apprenticeship be Developed

    Following consultation over September to October 2021, Australian Industry Standards (AIS) have advised, the Transport and Logistics Industry Reference Committee (IRC) have recommended that a national apprenticeship be established utilising the existing Certificate III in Driving Operations (TLI 31221).

    Feedback Sought: Rail Customer Service (TLI Training Package)

    The Rail Industry Reference Committee has submitted the Case for Endorsement and draft Training Package materials for the Rail Customer Service project to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for their consideration. The materials include updates to two qualifications, one Skill Set and eight associated Units of Competency, addressing customer service skills and knowledge related to ticketing and security requirements.
