The Federal Government will invest up to $4.3 billion to deliver Western Australia’s first large-vessel dry berth, creating a world-class precinct at the Henderson shipyard. The Henderson dry-dock will enable the construction and sustainment of large naval vessels in Australia and will increase the demand for workers with those skills (i.e. Shipbuilding) in WA.

Australian Industry Standards (AIS) have advised the draft Training Package materials for the Electric Heavy Vehicle project, including one updated qualification and two new Units of Competency are now ready for review. These draft materials address the required skills and knowledge for working with and operating battery electric heavy vehicles.

Defence Industry Briefing Sessions Occurring Now
The Office of Defence Industry Support (ODIS) have advised a series of free briefings will be held Nationally, including regional WA. The briefings will provide advice and direction to the defence industry and businesses in supplying to defence and defence supply chains, and to learn more about ODIS. Supported by the Federal Government, Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds (HHTS) have launched the Roadshow; a mental health outreach program to support the health and wellbeing of the heavy vehicle industry and supply chain. The Roadshow will provide tailored resources and practical mental health advice to truck drivers, and warehouse and distribution centre staff at 18 industry events across the country in 2022. The team will encourage the use of the free Healthy Heads App and will distribute pocket-sized handbooks with practical mental health and wellbeing tips.
