Australian Industry Standards (AIS) Extends Industry Skills Survey - Last Chance to Provide Feedback29/1/2022
AIS has extended the closing date of its Industry Skills Survey. This survey inviting responses from industry about key issues affecting skills and workforce development is now open and all industry stakeholders are encouraged to participate. Your input will assist the development of the 2022 Industry Outlooks. The skills surveys aim to build a whole-of-industry picture and will be used to assist in identifying new or emerging skills needs and help inform training package development. The skills survey can be completed online and should take around 5-10 minutes. Industry representatives are also invited to make submissions.
Complete the survey here. The survey will remain open until close of business Monday, 31 January 2022. As we embrace a new year it is a good opportunity to ensure we have your best contact information to ensure you are receiving all updates and opportunities to provide feedback.
We are always looking to expand our network to ensure good industry coverage across WA, so please also feel free to forward this newsletter or to contact us with nominations for any industry stakeholders (employers, associations, training providers or unions) you feel would benefit from being on our Industry Advisory Group (IAG) contact lists. The year ahead will be a busy one for the LDSC as we welcome new Industry Consultant, Ian Ryan who will be overseeing the Retail, Community Pharmacy and Floristry portfolios in early January.
Industry Advisory Group meetings will occur from Mid-February. These meetings are an important opportunity for industry stakeholders to provide insight into workforce development issues affecting them across the State. ServiceWA is currently focused on supporting the community to safely transition through the COVID 19 experience by providing a way to access proof of vaccination, SafeWA check-in and register travel into WA in one place. Set up takes about half an hour and you will need a MyGov account linked to your Medicare service and some proof of identity documents, such as your passport, Medicare card and/or driver’s licence. The Federal Government opened applications to 31 March 2022 for the operation of eleven Industry Clusters to replace the 67 Industry Reference Committees (IRC) and six Skills Service Organisations (SSO). Industry Clusters will be groups of aligned industries with a strategic leadership role to identify, forecast and respond to the current and emerging skills needs and workforce challenges of their industries. Industry Clusters will strengthen employer leadership and engagement in the national VET system and drive collaboration to meet the evolving needs of industry and employers. It is anticipated an independent assurance function will replace the Australian Industry and Skills Committee by 1 January 2023.

There is still time to consider putting on a trainee of apprentice to support your business. The Commonwealth Government extended the 50% wage subsidy available through the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements (BAC) program with the $726m Completing Apprenticeship Commencement program providing 2nd and 3rd year wage subsidies of 10% and 5% respectively. This support is for 270,000 commencements expected under the BAC program up to 31 March 2022.
Australian Industry Standards (AIS) recently held Industry Skills Webinars to discuss how the Industry Reference Committees for each sector are developing and revising training products to address the needs of industry and its workforce. Over 40 students from more than 20 countries visited Kinjarling/Albany recently in a Future Leaders Immersion Program field trip to explore regional opportunities through visits to ten industry partners in Perth, Bunbury, and the Great Southern region. The participants are students from the University of Western Australia (UWA), Curtin University, North Metropolitan TAFE and the University of Notre Dame Western Australia. Students connected on the field trip with organisations such as the Southern Ports Albany, City of Albany and Marine Energy Research Australia.
