The National Skills Plan 2025—26 Update details progress made in implementing the National Skills Agreement and delivering on the national priorities for the Vocational Education and Training system, as well as new focus areas for the national priorities for 2026.
More information here As part of the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA) Maintenance Strategy, a new round of consultation is scheduled to be held early next year. The opening date is set for Wed 11 Mar 2026, with consultation open until Fri 10 Apr 2026.

Starting Wed 11 Mar 2026, a submission guide will be available on the ABS Consultation Hub Industry Skills Australia (ISA) is seeking your input to validate the themes and priorities that emerged from extensive stakeholder engagement in 2025. Your responses will help shape 2026 Workforce Plans for the Transport Supply Chain industries - Maritime, Rail, Transport and Logistics (including omni-channel Logistics and Distribution) and Aviation (including Space Transport and Logistics).

A new Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) Employer Incentive will offer up to $5,000 to employers of apprentices in KAP-listed occupations, paid in two instalments in the first year. For Priority List occupations that are not KAP-listed, incentives will be reduced. The Australian Apprentice Training Support Payment will decrease from $5,000 to $2,500, paid over two years, and the Priority Hiring Incentive for employers will also reduce from $5,000 to $2,500, paid in the first year. This plan is designed to guide the Department’s business planning and service delivery over the next years, ensuring prosperity for all Western Australians.

The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) have jointly released the Dual Sector Regulatory Strategy in response to the Australian Universities Accord Final Report, aiming to reduce duplication and streamline regulation for Australia's 57 dual sector providers.

Following a review conducted in 2023-24, the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sports and the Arts (DITRDC) worked in consultation with governments and industry to refresh the National Freight & Supply Chain Strategy to ensure it remains fit for purpose.
